Australia and Tonga have signed the largest investment in our partnership’s history. This is an AUD85 million (TOP125 million) budget support program over the next four years to help strengthen Tonga’s economy, national budget, and resilience. It involves requirements that will help improve the efficiency of public administration, a shared priority.
Importantly, this investment is in addition to our comprehensive annual development support. It reflects the trust and maturity in our partnership, with our governments working closer than ever – from jobs and skills, to security, climate, and governance. It showcases the spirit of kaungame’a falala’anga and our strong belief in Pacific-led solutions to the region’s challenges. The Pacific is strongest when we work together, and back each other.
