The Honourable Prime Minister was pleased to join the High Commissioner of Australia, H.E Mr Brek Batley, members of the Australian community in Tonga, and invited guests to commemorate Australia Day, marked yesterday, in an event graced by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala and Crown Princess Sinaitakala.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister reflected on Australia’s enduring history and diversity, acknowledging the world’s oldest continuing civilisation and paying respect to the resilience, culture, and deep connection to land and sea of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He also recognised modern Australia as a vibrant, multicultural nation shaped by the contributions of all its citizens.

Highlighting the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries, the Prime Minister noted over 43,000 Tongans who proudly call Australia their home, commending their achievements across education, sport, business, and public service. He affirmed that their successes embody Pacific values of family, respect, reciprocity, and spirituality further strengthening the enduring friendship between Tonga and Australia.
