Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Tonga, H.E. Mr. Liu Weimin, paid a courtesy call on Tonga’s Prime Minister, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku.

Ambassador Liu said that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to developing of China-Tonga relations, appreciates Tonga’s adherence to the one-China principle, and is willing to work with Tonga to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to strengthen cooperation at high-level and all levels, and actively promote and expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields, to enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Hon. Hu’akavameiliku welcomed Ambassador Liu on assuming his new post and thanked China for its long-term assistance and support for Tonga’s economic and social development. He said that Tonga firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation with China in various fields.

The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common interests.
