Public Notice on Tofua Volcano #7

This is Notice No.7 to the public on the volcanic activities at Tofua Volcano, issued at 6:30 am.

There were a total of 6 events recorded over the last 24 hours, additional to the 13 events reported in the previous report. The latest event was recorded at 03:06 AM this morning (Figure 1).

This indicates that there are still ongoing magmatic activities in Tofua. Current status of the thermal anomaly monitored over the past 24 hours was observed to be low to moderate compared to the 26th – 27th of April, 2024. Close monitoring of the thermal signatures emitted from Tofua is still ongoing for major changes.

There was no volcanic ash cloud detected in the last 24 hours, based on satellite images.

The preliminary Volcanic Hazard Map in Figure 2 indicates the restricted zone for Tofua Volcano. The public is hereby advised to adhere to these restrictions for safety purposes.

The volcano activity poses low risk to the Vava’u and Ha’apai Communities.
All Mariners are advised to sail beyond 1.08 nautical miles from Tofua Volcano until further notice.

Tofua is located 76.1 km west of Pangai, Ha’apai at Latitude & Longitude 19.75°S, 175.07°W. Monitoring of the eruption is ongoing with daily notices issued on the status of the eruption.
