The Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, held a bilateral meeting with Mr Tsuge Yoshifumi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who led a Special Envoy of Japan’s Prime Minister to Tonga, today at the Cabinet Chamber in Nuku’alofa.
During his one-day visit to Tonga, they discussed areas of mutual interest in strengthening Japan-Tonga friendly relations and exchanged views on issues of common concern for both countries.
PM Hon Hu’akavameiliku expressed Tonga’s gratitude to Japan for being a key and treasured partner of Tonga, and praised Japan’s ongoing development cooperation with the Tongan government through generous bilateral assistance programs.
They also discussed PALM10, which is scheduled for next July, and the upcoming 53 Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting that Tonga will host in August. The Special Envoy of Prime Minister Kishida presented an invitation to the Hon. Hu’akavameiliku to attend the PALM10 meeting in Japan, while PM Hu’akavameiliku extended an invitation to Honourable Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, to attend the Pacific Leaders annual meeting in the Pacific Region.
In response, Mr Tsuge expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and discuss areas for further collaboration.
