Hon Prime Minister meets Minister of State for Indo-Pacific in London

London – The Prime Minister, Honourable Hu’akavameiliku held discussions with the United Kingdom Minister of State for Indo-Pacific, Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London on May 3.
Hon Hu’akavameiliku raised key issues that Tonga is working on with the assistance of the United Kingdom at the meeting. He emphasised the importance of Education to Tonga and the need for
opportunities for Tongans to study in UK while acknowledging the current Chevening Scholarships.
Hon Hu’akavameiliku says Tonga stands with the United Kingdom in prioritising access to Climate Finance for Small and other Vulnerable States and supporting those countries who have suffered or continue to suffer from natural disasters and extreme weather events.
Another key issue discussed was possibility of job opportunities for Tongans in UK, acknowledging the need for clearer requirements/pathways.
Hon Hu’akavameiliku said, Tonga looks forward to the opportunity for a bigger role by the United Kingdom in supporting Tonga’s socio-economic priorities.
