“Tonga and New Zealand Prime Ministers held bilateral meeting to advance Statement of Partnership”

This afternoon, Tonga’s Prime Minister, Honourable Hu’akavameiliku held a bilateral meeting in Auckland, with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Right Honourable Christopher Luxon, to discuss priority areas for cooperation and partnership, in climate change, cyber security, sports, health and education. Both sides emphasized the readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation to strengthen the Tonga New Zealand Statement of Partnership.

The two Prime Ministers also discussed other areas of common interests, where Prime Minister Luxon congratulated Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku on his leadership at the COP28 Climate Meetings as Political Champion for Climate Finance and as incoming chair of the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Forum Meetings to be hosted in Tonga in August 2024.
