World Tourism Day 2021: “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”

The Prime Minister, Hon. Rev. Dr. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa, marked the opening of World Tourism Day on the 27th September, 2021 at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.
In his keynote address he stated, “Tourism is one of the hardest hit industry in Tonga, because the pandemic was compromised by the effects of Cyclone Gita and Cyclone Harold.”
However, Tonga remains COVID free and the borders continue to remain closed, despite this the Ministry through its various divisions continue to work hand in hand with stakeholders, communities, businesses in the promotion of Tourism as an important catalyst for inclusive growth both socially and economically.
In commemorating World Tourism and its theme: “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”, the Ministry marked the week with celebrations which began this Saturday with a Fun Fare, launching of important documents, projects and plans and a Tourism Exhibition.
