His Royal Highness, Prince Ata launched the new currency 2023 series on Monday 4th December, 2023 at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre.

All the new banknotes feature engraved Portrait of His Majesty King Tupou VI on the front and reverse of the notes features different themes.

The upgraded series introduces Tonga’s first polymer banknotes on the $5 and $10.

The event was also attended by the Acting Prime Minister, Hon Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, and Ministers of Cabinet; members of the Board of Directors of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga and distinguished guests.
